TWO-DIMENSIONAL LINEAR – STRENGTH SINGULARITY ELEMENTS

The representation of a continuous singularity distribution by a series of constant-strength elements results in a discontinuity of the singularity strength at the panel edges. To overcome this problem, a linearly varying strength singularity element can be used. The requirement that the strength of the singularity remains the same at the edge of two neighbor elements results in an additional equation. Therefore, with this type of element, for N collocation points 2N equations will be formed (see examples in Chapter 11).
